-Résumé en Anglais:

Through Ecocritical and Ecofeminist lenses, this thesis aims to examine the intricate nexus of gendered oppression, environmental degradation, and climate change, as shown in the speculative and dystopian climate novels of Butler, Atwood, and Kingsolver. It endeavors to expose the intersecting systems of oppression that underpin the simultaneous subjugation of women and the natural world. It also seeks to map out modes of critiques, resistance, and activism enacted by characters, as reactions to these exploitative systems, with special attention to the new social, economic, and political models of society they project and strive to build. This thesis further steps in to underscore the literary depictions of climate change and its disproportionate impacts on minority groups, particularly women. In doing so, this research study invites readers to experience illuminating perspectives from the margins of society on various pressing issues that mainstream male-centred discourse often disregard. After a close reading of the selected novels, it has been revealed that women and the natural world are concurrently controlled, exploited, and commodified because of repressive capitalist, patriarchal, and technocratic organizations that perpetually redefine them to serve certain ends. Such unrestrained penetrations of vulnerable species incite heightened violence, exploitation, and ecological decline, which, in turn, aggravate the plight of oppressed groups. Female characters, in this respect, do not remain indifferent to the bleak realities affecting them and their lands, often embarking on arduous treks of self-growth, resistance, and activism, aiming to bring about a more egalitarian philosophy to existence that can speak equally to all species. Amid such thoughtful visions, they end up bearing the brunt of the climate crisis, despite their minimal contributions to its causation.
