The notion of criticality and its place in higher education has been mostly framed within a Western cognitive approach which tends to favour the centrality of argumentation and logic while neglecting its relation to cultural context. Framed within an interpretive phenomenological approach, this study provides insights on contextuality, relationality and embodiment as significantly shaping the meaning and development of critical thinking in the Algerian university context.

يحظى التفكير النقدي باهتمام متزايد في السنوات الأخيرة، إلا أنه قد تم تأطيره ومكانته في التعليم العالي بشكل رئيس وفقا لمقاربة معرفية غربية تنزع إلى إعطاء الأولوية لمحورية الحججية والمنطق وعدم علاقته بالسياق الثقافي.تعتمد هذه الدراسة على المنهج الفينومينولوجي وقد بينت نتائجها وجود إرتباط بين السياق والعلائقية والتجسيد باعتبارها تؤثر بشكل كبير على مفهوم وتنمية التفكير النقدي في الجامعات الجزائرية

This thesis explores the rich tradition of minority women writers and the ways in which they have expressed their sense of identity through their autobiographical writings. Because of the different historical and cultural experiences of the different ethnic groups discussed here, we cannot approach ethnic writers from a unilateral perspective, therefore, I will use specific approaches specific to each writer and ethnic group.

ملخص

تتناول هذه الدراسة مجموعة من السير الشخصية التي أفرزتها بعض الأقليات العرقية الأمريكية، و  التي أسهمت بشكل كبير في رسم ملامح الأدب الأمريكي. و لما كان لكل أقلية من الأقليات التي تطرقنا إليها، تجربتها التاريخية و هويتها الثقافية الخاصة كان لابد من دراسة كل واحدة بطريقة مختلفة لذلك تم استخدام مجموعة من المقاربات بما يتلائم و طبيعة كل كاتبة و كل أقلية عرقية.

The study aims to explore first and second year English degree students metacognitive illusions in reading and writing examination tasks. It attempts to draw the relationship between metacognitive knowledge, monitoring and regulation and students academic achievement in the two skills. The mixed methods approach was used to collect quantitative and qualitative data. The findings revealed a deficiency in students’ procedural knowledge and metacognitive monitoring and calls for explicit instruction of metacognitive knowledge and regulation and further research on teachers’ metacognition.

تهدف الدراسة إلى استكشاف وهم ما فوق المعرفة لطلاب السنة الأولى و الثانية تدرج انجليزية في اختبارات القراءة والكتابة. تحاول هذه الدراسة إيجاد العلاقة ما بين المعرفة و التحكم الما فوق معرفي و تحصيل الطلبة في مهارات القراءة والكتابة. استعملت الدراسة المنهجية المختلطة لجمع البيانات الكمية و النوعية. كشفت النتائج عن نقص في المعرفة الإجرائية و التحكم لدى الطلاب و تدعو إلى التعليم المباشر لهذه المهارات والمزيد من البحوث و الدراسات حول ما فوق معرفة الأساتذة
