The present research explores teachers’ agendas for learner autonomy. The findings reveal that developing learner autonomy is not high on the agendas of many teachers. Teachers seem to suffer from environmental factors especially lack of social consideration of their role and poor management of education. Suggestions are offered for developing and sustaining teachers’ capacity to develop learner autonomy.

استكشف البحث الحالي  أجندات الاساتذة لاستقلالية المتعلمين. النتيجة الرئيسية لهذا البحث هي أن تطوير استقلالية المتعلم ليس من أولويات الكثير من الاساتذة .يبدو أن الاساتذة يعانون من عوامل بيئية خاصة عدم مراعاة المجتمع لدورهم وضعف إدارة التعليم . قدم الباحث اقتراحات لتطوير واستدامة قدرة الاساتذة على تطوير استقلالية المتعلم.

Writing in a Second Language or a Foreign Language is a complex activity that makes EFL students often meet difficulties when writing in English. This complexity appears in student’s writings that are often described as being rhetorically unstructured and generally personal.  The aim of this current research is to enhance the importance of writing strategies instruction in teaching writing as a way to improve Algerian students’ English writing performance as far as English is considered as a foreign language in Algeria.

تعد الكتابة بلغة ثانية أو لغة أجنبية نشاطًا معقدًا يجعل طلاب اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية يواجهون صعوبات عند الكتابة باللغة الإنجليزية. يظهر هذا التعقيد في كتابات الطلاب التي غالبًا ما توصف بأنها غير منظمة من الناحية الخطابية وشخصية بشكل عام. الهدف من هذا البحث الحالي هو تعزيز أهمية تعليم استراتيجيات الكتابة في تدريس الكتابة كوسيلة لتحسين أداء الكتابة باللغة الإنجليزية للطلاب الجزائريين باعتبار اللغة الإنجليزية لغة أجنبية في الجزائر.

Resümee

Phraseologische Forschungen sind heute aus der Deskription einzelner Sprachen nicht mehr wegzudenken. Idiome, Sprichwörter, Redensarten, Redewendungen, sprichwörtliche Redensarten und andere Wendungen sind Bestandteil des Alltags. Sie vermitteln Weisheiten, Erfahrungen und gehören zur Kulturgeschichte eines jeden Landes unbedingt dazu. Der Gegenstand der Arbeit ist in erster Linie, die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede der kulturellen Konnotation der deutschen und der arabischen Phraseme zu ermitteln.  Als Korpus stehen ausgewählte Texte sowohl aus dem Deutschen als auch aus dem Arabischen zu Verfügung. Dabei geht es nicht um eine vollständige Inventarisierung sämtlicher im Deutschen und im Arabischen existierenden Phraseme, sondern um eine Untersuchung von jeweils hundert Phrasemen in jeder Sprache, die in diesen Texten vorhanden sind. Um die gestellten Fragen beantworten zu können, haben wir die folgende linguistische Arbeit in zwei Hauptteile strukturiert: einen theoretischen und einen empirischen Teil. Der erste Hauptteil der Arbeit stellt die theoretischen Voraussetzungen für den anschließenden empirischen Forschungsteil dar. Der empirische Teil besteht aus der Analyse der deutschen und arabischen Phraseme aus unserem Korpus, den Untersuchungen von Parallelen und Unterschieden der ausgewählten Phraseme in den zwei Sprachen und die Darstellung der Konnotationen des jeweiligen ethnokulturellen Kontextes. Dazu haben wir die Herkunft der Phraseme und die spezifisch nationalen oder internationalen Besonderheiten der Phraseme des Sprachenpaars beschrieben. Unsere Arbeit endet mit einer Schlussfolgerung, die aufzeigt,inwieweit man von der Sprache bzw. den Konnotationen im Besonderen auf die Kultur eines Landes schließen kann.

الملخص

تعتبر الأمثال، الحكم، المسكوكات وغيرها من العبارات جزء من الحياة اليومية. يتناول هذا العمل موضوع الدلالة. حيث تعكس الدلالات قيم ومشاعر حالة اجتماعية، ويتم من خلالها التعبير عن الظروف الثقافية. ولهذا السبب، فإن اختيار موضوع هذا البحث هو النهج الدلالي. تم اختيار نصوص مختارة باللغتين الألمانية والعربية كمجموعة. لا يتمثل الهدف في إجراء جرد كامل لجميع العبارات الموجودة باللغتين الألمانية والعربية، ولكن القيام بمقاربة لمائة عبارة في كل لغة موجودة في هذه المجموعة. الهدف هو تحديد الاختلافات وأوجه التشابه الممكنة بين اللغتين من حيث الدلالات والخصائص الشكلية. وللتدقيق في هذه المشكلة والإجابة على الأسئلة المطروحة، قمنا بتركيب العمل اللغوي إلى جزأين رئيسيين: جزء نظري وجزء تجريبي. في الفصل الأول تم شرح المصطلحات "اللغويات المقارنة" و "العبارات المقارنة". وفي فصل آخر، قدم تعريف للمصطلحات التقنية المركزية المستخدمة في العمل، مثل العبارات المسكوكة، فضلا عن شرح الخصائص والتصنيفات وتحديد ملامح المصطلح وهذا ينطبق على اللغة الألمانية. وفي فصل ثالث، درست العبارات المذكورة أعلاه في الفصل الثاني في اللغة العربية. ويتناول الفصل الرابع تعريف الدلالة والثقافة وأخيرا، بطبيعة الحال، الدلالات الثقافية للعبارات. ويتألف الفصلان الخامس والسادس في الجزء التجريبي من تحليل العبارات في اللغتين الألمانية والعربية من مجموعتنا. وفي الفصل السابع، أظهرت الدراسة أوجه التشابه والاختلاف بين العبارات المختارة في اللغتين وعرض دلالات السياق العرقي الثقافي لكل منهما. ولهذا الغرض، وصفنا أصل العبارات والخصائص الثقافية المحددة لعبارات اللغتين. ينتهي عملنا باستنتاج يوضح إلى أي مدى يمكن للمرء أن يستنتج ثقافة بلد سواء من اللغة أو دلالاتها على وجه الخصوص. 

Abstract

Phraseological research has become an indispensable part of the descriptive process of individual languages. Idioms, proverbs, and other phrases are part of everyday life. They convey wisdom and experiences. They reflect both the culture of the past and that of the present. Connotations reflect values and feelings of a social constitution. The goal is to identify possible cross-linguistic differences or similarities in terms of connotations and formal features. Selected texts from both German and Arabic are available as a corpus. The aim is not a complete inventory of all phrasemes existing in German and Arabic, but an examination of one hundred phrasemes in each language that are present in these texts. In order to investigate this issue and to be able to answer the questions posed, we have structured the linguistic work into two parts: a theoretical part and an empirical part. The first part of the thesis presents the theoretical prerequisites for the empirical research part that follows. Necessary for this was a brief overview of contrastive linguistics and contrastive phraseology and central technical terms used in the context of the thesis, such as phraseology, phraseme, connotation, culture, and finally, of course, the cultural connotations of the phrasemes. The empirical part consists of the analysis of German and Arabic phrasemes from our corpus. Investigations of parallels and differences of the selected phrasemes in the two languages and the presentation of the connotations of the respective ethnocultural contexts are also pointed out in this part. Our work ends with a conclusion that shows the extent to which one can infer the culture of a country from the language or connotations in particular.
