The study attempts to explore the challenges experienced by graduate students in writing the Master’s dissertation. It also sheds light on the reasons why most MA students failed to write a successful dissertation that adheres to the academic research writing standards. To this end, an exploratory concurrent-nested design was adopted. The research findings revealed the following challenges: unfamiliarity with the content of the dissertation parts, summarizing and paraphrasing issues, poor language proficiency and writing issues.

تهدف الدراسة الى استكشاف التحديات التي يواجهها طلبة الماستر في كتابة مذكرة التخرج وأهم الأسباب التي أدت الى تلك التحديات. ولبلوغ هذين الهدفين، تم اعتماد تصميم استكشافي أسفرت من خلاله نتائج الدراسات عن التحديات التالية: عدمالإلمام بمحتوى فصول مذكرة الماستر، صعوبات في التلخيص واعادة الصياغة، ومشاكل في الكتابة الأكاديمية باللغة الانجليزية.

D.H. Lawrence’s Prophetic Portrayal of Narcissism, Sexuality and Materialism in 21^st century Society through his Fiction.

In the 21^st identity is increasingly commodified and human experience is filtered through constructed social personas, the essence of what it means to be truly human stands under profound threat. This dissertation investigates the dehumanising forces surged in modernity by focusing on three interrelated symptoms: narcissism—the excessive preoccupation with the self and its projected social image; sexuality—the commodification of intimacy and interpersonal relationships; and materialism—the pursuit of wealth and social prestige as a means of self-validation. Drawing primarily on the fiction and non-fiction of D. H. Lawrence, this study foregrounds his prophetic critique of modern industrial-capitalist society that resonates in the present era. Lawrence’s emphasis on spiritual awareness, authentic being, and the transformative potential of interpersonal relationships serves as a vital counterpoint to the reduction of individuals into mechanical roles, social images and economic functions. Complementing Lawrence’s vision, the work of social psychologist Erich Fromm is employed to deepen the analysis of psychological pathologies—particularly alienation, instrumentalism, and the erosion of genuine selfhood—which Lawrence intuitively foresaw.Focusing on The Rainbow and Women in Love, argues that Lawrence, in alignment with Fromm’s later theories, offers a profound diagnosis of the modern dehumanizing, malaise more directly corroborated by British sociologist Zygmunt Bauman’s theories of liquid modernity at the heart of the present age. Through an interdisciplinary methodology that integrates literary analysis with social psychology, the study demonstrates how these thinkers, pioneered by D.H. Lawrence, reveal the disintegration of the self under the pressures of late modernity.In a world increasingly shaped by image culture, performative identities, and existential emptiness masked by material abundance, this work positions literature as a prophetic voice against dehumanisation. It offers a reflective exploration of the ongoing struggle for authenticity in an age dominated by commodification and conformity.

خلال التركیز على ثلاثة أعراض مترابطة: النرجسیة — أي الانشغال المفرط بالذات وصورتھا الاجتماعیة ال ُمعلنة؛ والجنس — أي تسلیع الحمیمیة والعلاقات الشخصیة؛ والمادیة — أي السعي وراء الثروة والمكانة الاجتماعیة كوسیلة .لتحقیق الذات وتأكیدھا 

من خلال الاعتماد أسا ًسا على أعمال د. ھـ. لورنس الروائیة والنقدیة، تسلط ھذه الدراسة الضوء على نقده النبوي للمجتمع الصناعي-الرأسمالي الحدیث. فتركیز لورنس على الوعي الروحي، والكینونة الأصیلة، والقدرة التحویلیة للعلاقات
الجنسیة، یش ّكل ركیزة مضادة لردم الإنسان في أدوار میكانیكیة ووظائف اقتصادیة بحتة. وبالاستعانة بأعمال عالم النفس الاجتماعي إریك فروم، تع ّمق الدراسة تحلیلھا للاضطرابات النفسیة المعاصرة — لا سیما الاغتراب، والوظیفیة الآلیة، .وتآكل الذات الحقیقیة — وھي جمیعًا أمراض كان لورنس قد تنبأ بھا بحدسھ الأدبي العمیق

اللاحقة، یقدّم تشخی ًصا بالغ العمق لأزمة الحداثة. ومن خلال منھجیة متعددة التخصصات تجمع بین التحلیل الأدبي والنفس .الاجتماعي، تُبیّن الدراسة كیف یكشف كلا المفكرین عن تفتت الذات تحت ضغوط الحداثة المتأخرة 

في عالم بات مش ّكلاً على نحو متزاید بثقافة الصورة، والھویات الأدائیة، والفراغ الوجودي المتخفي خلف وفرة مادیة، تطرح ھذه الدراسة الأدب كصوت نبوي في وجھ التشیيء ونزع الإنسانیة. إنھا تقدم استكشافًا جدیدًا ومتأملاً لصراع
الإنسان المعاصر من أجل الأصالة في زمن تحكمھ السلعنة والتطابق الجماعي. وللقارئ الساعي لفھم تقاطعات الأدب وعلم .النفس والأسئلة الفلسفیة للوجود الحدیث، تُعد ھذه الأطروحة إسھا ًما رصینًا ومؤث ًرا في دراسة الذات ومآزقھا

The Impact of Digital Media on Informal Language Learning and Teaching Engagement, Attitudes, and Pedagogical Practices

This doctoral thesis examines the relationship between Informal Digital Learning of English (IDLE) and formal English for Science and Technology (EST) instruction among Algerian engineering students at the École Nationale Polytechnique. Using a pragmatic explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, the study combines questionnaire data), study logs , student focus groups, and teacher interviews to analyze behavioral, affective, cognitive, and linguistic engagement with informal digital English. Methodologically, the study advances IDLE research by validating a multidimensional engagement framework and by integrating Latent Profile Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling to examine engagement patterns, attitudes, and motivational predictors. The results reveal a clear imbalance in engagement: while students show high behavioral and affective involvement driven by entertainment-based media use, their cognitive and linguistic engagement remains low, indicating predominantly consumption-oriented practices. Empirically, affective IDLE engagement is found to negatively predict attitudes toward EST, supporting the conflict hypothesis derived from Self-Determination Theory, whereas other engagement dimensions show limited or no predictive power. Motivational constructs such as Ideal L2 Self and International Posture predict entertainment-driven engagement but not learning-oriented behaviors. Qualitative findings further expose algorithm-driven passive consumption, surface-level noticing, confidence barriers, and a perceived disconnect between informal English and EST requirements, while teacher data highlight both perceived fluency gains and persistent pedagogical and institutional constraints. Overall, the study challenges the assumption that informal digital exposure automatically supports academic language development and argues for explicit pedagogical strategies to bridge informal digital practices and formal technical English instruction

تتناول هذه الأطروحة العلاقة بين التعلّم الرقمي غير الرسمي للغة الإنجليزية (IDLE) والتدريس الرسمي للغة الإنجليزية لأغراض علمية وتكنولوجية (EST) لدى طلبة الهندسة بالمدرسة الوطنية المتعددة التقنيات بالجزائر. واعتمدت الدراسة منهجًا براغماتيًا ذا تصميم تتابعي تفسيري متعدد الأساليب، حيث جمعت بين بيانات استبيانات، وسجلات تعلّم ،ومجموعات نقاش طلابية، ومقابلات مع أساتذة EST بهدف تحليل أبعاد الانخراط السلوكي والوجداني والمعرفي واللغوي في التعلّم غير الرسمي للإنجليزية. ومن الناحية المنهجية، تُسهم الدراسة في تطوير بحوث IDLE من خلال التحقق من إطار متعدد الأبعاد للانخراط، وتوظيف تحليل الأنماط الكامنة ونمذجة المعادلات البنائية لدراسة أنماط الانخراط والمواقف والعوامل الدافعية. وتُظهر النتائج وجود اختلال واضح في الانخراط، إذ يتميّز الطلبة بانخراط سلوكي ووجداني مرتفعين مدفوعين بالاستهلاك الترفيهي للوسائط الرقمية، مقابل ضعف الانخراط المعرفي واللغوي، مما يعكس ممارسات قائمة على التعرّض أكثر من التعلّم. كما كشفت النتائج التجريبية أن الانخراط الوجداني في IDLE يؤثر سلبًا في المواقف تجاه EST، وهو ما يدعم فرضية الصراع المستمدة من نظرية التحديد الذاتي، في حين لم تُظهر بقية الأبعاد تأثيرًا يُذكر. وأوضحت التحليلات الدافعية أن الذات اللغوية المثالية والتوجّه الدولي يتنبآن بالانخراط الترفيهي لا بالتعلّم المقصود. وتدعم النتائج النوعية هذه الاستنتاجات من خلال إبراز الاستهلاك السلبي الموجَّه بالخوارزميات، والانتباه السطحي للغة، ومعوّقات الثقة، والانفصال المدرك بين الإنجليزية غير الرسمية ومتطلبات EST، في حين تشير بيانات الأساتذة إلى مكاسب في الطلاقة مقابل قيود بيداغوجية ومؤسساتية مستمرة. وتخلص الدراسة إلى التشكيك في افتراض أن التعرّض الرقمي العرضي يفضي تلقائيًا إلى تنمية لغوية أكاديمية، وتدعو إلى اعتماد استراتيجيات بيداغوجية صريحة لربط التعلّم غير الرسمي بالتدريس الرسمي للغة الإنجليزية التقنية.
