This study delves into the vocabulary learning strategies (VLSs) deployed by Algerian EFL undergraduate students at the English Department of Algiers 2 University, emphasizing the influence of gender and year of study. The research’s primary objectives are to identify the most/least utilized and perceived useful VLS categories and strategies, and to examine the approaches adopted by students throughout their academic journey.

هذه الدراسة تسلط الضوء على استراتيجيات تعلم المفردات لدى طلاب جامعة الجزائر2 المتخصصين في تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية، مع التركيز على تأثير المتغيرين:الاناث\الذكور والسنة الأكاديمية. الدراسة تهدف إلى تحديد الاستراتيجيات الأكثر/الأقل استخدامًا والتي يعتبرها الطلاب مفيدة لتعزيز لغتهم الإنجليزية، وتفحص أيضًا  النهج التي يتبعه الطلاب خلال مسارهم الأكاديمي.

-Résumé en Anglais :
The present research work deals comparatively with the representation of rural
and urban environments in a set of realistic and naturalistic novels from
American and Anglophone African literatures. The primary focus here is the
binary countryside-city, or province-metropolis, including an examination of
the representation of each part’s most significant components, namely the
milieu (space and atmosphere) and its inhabitants. The African and the
American novelists of our corpus deal with the issue of the countryside’s
marginalisation and the rise of the city as an alternative frontier in more or less
the same way given the fact that the transition from rurality to urbanism
corresponds to the age of realistic and naturalistic literary production whose
most prominent figures either critiqued the fast-growing industrial business or
fiercely denounced its irreversible effects on the disappearing provincial –and
traditional– traits. In the light of American and African history on one hand,
and the theory of influence and intertextuality which allows us to evaluate the
legacy of Flaubert and Zola outside the European frontiers on the other hand,
this thesis attempts to explain the points of convergence and divergence in the
representation of the countryside and the city by the selected African and
American authors, as well as the reasons behind such depiction of a long-
existing dichotomy.

       يتعامل البحث الحالي بشكل نسبي مع تمثيل البيئات الريفية والحضرية في مجموعة من الروايات
الواقعية والطبيعية من الآداب الأمريكية والأفريقية الناطقة بالإنجليزية. ينصب التركيز الأساسي لهذا البحث
على ثنائية الريف - المدينة، بما في ذلك فحص تمثيل المكونات الأكثر أهمية لكل جزء، أي البيئة (الفضاء)
وسكانها. يجعل هذا العمل البحثي من اهتماماته الأساسية فحصًا للطرق التي يتم بها تصوير الريف والمدينة في
روايات تدور في سياق حضري وحديث يتميز بالفردية والمادية، لذلك، من المهم أن نلقي الضوء على مكانة
الرعوية في عصر تتفوق فيه الصناعة بشكل صارخ على الزراعة ، وتتفوق الحداثة على التقاليد.

This dissertation aims at investigating the efficacy of implementing Critical Discourse
Analysis to improve learners’ understanding of the ideologies and power relations
that literary texts include. This research was conducted as response to the perceived
imperfections of some traditional approaches to teaching literature. Therefore, its
results will help EFL teachers and learners alike to have a more critical and
comprehesive attitude about the texts provided in literature classes.

تهدف هذه الأطروحة إلى التحقق من مدى فعالية ت التحليل النقدي للخطاب لتحسين فهم المتعلمين
للأيديولوجيات وعلاقات القوة التي تتضمنها النصوص الأدبية. تم إجراء هذا البحث كرد فعل على العيوب
الملحوظة في بعض الأساليب التقليدية لتدريس الأدب. ولذلك، فإن نتائجها ستساعد معلمي اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة
أجنبية والمتعلمين على حد سواء على أن يكون لديهم موقف أكثر انتقادية وشمولية تجاه النصوص المقدمة في
دروس الأدب.

This study conducted at Tayeb Boulahrouf Middle School in Algiers examined the impact of phonological awareness instruction on first- and fourth-grade EFL learners' reading competence. The study demonstrated that explicit phonological awareness intervention significantly improved reading competence for both grade levels, contradicting the pure whole language approach.

 تناولت هذه الدراسة التي أجريت في متوسطة الطيب بولحروف بالجزائر العاصمة، تأثير تعليم الوعي الصوتي على كفاءة القراءة لدى متعلمي اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية في الصفين الأول والرابع. أظهرت الدراسة أن تدخل الوعي الصوتي الصريح أدى إلى تحسين كفاءة القراءة بشكل كبير في كلا المستويين الدراسيين، وهو ما يتعارض مع منهج اللغة الذي يركز على تعليم معاني المفردات بدلا عن الصوتيات.
