This thesis examines David Cameron’s leadership of the British Conservative Party, focusing
on his modernisation project aimed at reshaping the party’s image through progressive
rhetoric and centrist policies. It evaluates how his strategy helped the party regain power but
also created internal divisions that contributed to later political instability, particularly around
Brexit.

This study explored how critical thinking instruction, guided by Toulmin’s model and critical interpretation of arguments, affected Algerian EFL students’ ability to detect persuasion and media bias in English news  reports. Fifty-five students were trained to analyze authentic texts. Data from pre/post-tests, verbal protocols, questionnaires, and interviews showed improved recognition of authorial intent and bias. Ideological bias remained the most difficult to identify. The findings advocate for embedding critical thinking in EFL curricula.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى بحث دور التفكير النقدي في تحليل الخطاب الإعلامي، وتحديداً كيف يمكّن طلاب اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية في الجزائر من تمييز الإقناع والتحيز في التناول الإعلامي. باستخدام نموذج تولمين، تم إخضاع 55 طالبًا للتدريب نظريا و عمليا على تفكيك الحجج وتقييمها من خلال تحليل نصوص إعلامية أصيلة. في حين أظهروا الطلاب تحسنًا كبيرًا في مهارات القراءة النقدية و التعرف على نوايا المؤلف والتحيز الواضح، ظل التحيز الأيديولوجي يمثل تحديًا. توصي النتائج بضرورة دمج التفكير النقدي ضمن مناهج تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية لتعزيز الوعي الإعلامي وتمكين الطلاب.

This research examines the role of popular fiction in criticizing the Manifest Destiny. It leads a comparative study between Mario Puzo’s The Godfather (1969) and Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club (1996). The aim is to evaluate the progress of the portrayed antiheroes, represented by Corleone and Durden, in their attempts to delegitimize the Manifest Destiny.

يُعنى هذا البحث بدور الرواية الشعبية في تقييم وانتقاد وتفحص الجوانب الرئيسية مثل المصير ألأمريكي حيث تقدم دراسة ألأطروحة مقارنة بين Mario Puzo The Godfather  (1969) و   .Fight Club (1996) Chuck Palahniuk الهدف منها هو تقييم تطور مناهضي- كورليوني و دوردن، في محاولاتهم لرفع الشرعية عن المصير الواضح.

This research explores the perceptions and practices of graduate Didactics supervisees at Algiers 2 University during the supervision process. It also examines the relationship between these perceptions and practices and proposes a supervision framework for Master's level. An exploratory concurrent-nested design was used, including questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. The findings showed that the supervisees formed positive, negative and mixed perceptions regarding the different steps of the supervision process. Those with positive perceptions used more skills, resulting in more effective and integrated practices. In contrast, negative or mixed perceptions led to less effective and less integrated practices. These findings indicate that the supervisees’ perceptions informed and guided their practices.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف تصوّرات وممارسات طلبة الماستر في تعليمية اللغة الإنجليزية بجامعة الجزائر 2 خلال عملية الإشراف الأكاديمي، والكشف عن العلاقة بينهما، مع اقتراح إطار أكاديمي للإشراف على هذا المستوى. اعتمدت الدراسة تصميماً استكشافياً مدمجاً شمل استبيانات ومقابلات شبه مهيكلة وتحليل وثائق. أظهرت النتائج أن الطلبة يحملون تصوّرات إيجابية أو سلبية أو مختلطة تجاه مراحل الإشراف المختلفة، وأن هذه التصوّرات تؤثّر بشكل مباشر على ممارساتهم. فقد أظهر ذوو التصوّرات الإيجابية ممارسات أكثر فعالية واندماجاً نتيجة توظيفهم لمهارات متعددة، في حين كانت ممارسات ذوي التصوّرات السلبية أو المختلطة أقل فعالية وتكاملاً، مما يدل على أن التصوّرات كانت موجِّهة للسلوك والممارسة في سياق الإشراف الأكاديمي.
